I am having trouble getting sparks from the ferro rod, how do I use this thing?
Hold the striker perpendicular to the ferro rod (in a cross like position), make sure both edges of the striker are touching the rod, then scrape with a steady smooth motion against the rod to produce the maximum amount of sparks.
